Police Memorial planned for the Police Faciltiy
In 2006, Scott Hanson, who died in the line of duty, was honored on the Los Angeles County, California, and National Law Enforcement Memorial sites, where his name and legacy will be remembered forever. Now, after 6 years, members of the Covina Police Department are using National Police Week 2012 as the launching point for its fund raising campaign aimed at the construction of the Covina Police Department's Police Memorial. The memorial will be erected to the front of the Covina Police Department and it will serve as a reminder to all of the sacrifices made by Covina police officers. For more information, click Police Memorial.
Service Area Policing
The Covina Police Department encourages you to report suspected intoxicated drivers immediately by dialing 911.
Service Area Policing allows you to contact the lieutenant who is responsible for your specific area of concern for any non-emergency issues. It is a more citizen-friendly style of policing. For more information on this program or to learn how to contact your Service Area Lieutenant, click here

Drunk Driving is Not Worth the Risk! |
|
“All too often, members of our community are senselessly injured or killed on local roadways by impaired drivers” said Covina Police Chief, Kim Raney. In 2011, 11,773 people died in highway crashes across the country involving a driver or motorcycle rider with a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of .08 or higher. In California alone, 1,029 were killed on state and local roads driving with a .08 BAC or higher with another 28,457 injured in alcohol involved collisions.
“Drunk driving is simply not worth the risk. Not only do you risk killing yourself or someone else, but the trauma and financial costs of a crash or an arrest for impaired driving can be significant,” said Christopher J. Murphy, Director of the California Office of Traffic Safety. “Violators often face jail time, the loss of their driver’s license, higher insurance rates, attorney fees, time away from work, and dozens of other expenses. So don’t take the chance. Remember, if you are over the limit, you are under arrest!”
Law enforcement officials encourage parents to talk to their high school students who are planning on attending junior-senior prom celebrations this year about the dangers of alcohol. Underage drinking is not only a problem for our youth; it’s an adult problem too. More than half of teens who drink are getting their alcohol from adults. According to the most recent SAMHSA National Survey on Drug Use and Health, the following is a ranking of the top five ways teen drinkers get their alcohol:
26% Parent or Family Member
25% Not Related Over 21
22% Not Related Under 21
10% Took it from Home
5% Took it from Other Home
12% Other
