Help Struggling Readers Get a Second Start Readers Get a Second Start through the Covina Public Library Second Start Literacy Program helping students succeed in several areas. Through its literacy services, adult learners have acquired the necessary English and reading skills which enabled them to pass their Citizenship Test, Certified Nursing Assistant Test and be successful in higher education programs at local colleges and universities. In addition, literacy services help students obtain better jobs. Recent successes include; D. Nicolopaulou who received her Certified Nursing Assistant Certification, Lydia L. who passed her Citizenship Test and S. Kang who was accepted to Western University’s Doctor of Pharmacy Program. The Literacy Program currently serves 61 adults, 36 children with 29 tutors. “Through the Literacy Program and its tutors, my son Jody Iniguez once a struggling student, has excelled in Reading and Writing. Thanks to the program, Jody is now among one of the top students in his class, his reading and writing scores are ranked the highest in his class. I want to thank everyone involved in making the tutoring program such a useful resource.”
